Qi or Qigong, the meditative martial art, is a Chinese system of physical movements and breathing control that has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is related to the better-known tai chi. The slow, graceful motions are simple and repetitive, making the practice of qigong accessible to just about anyone.
“Benefits include: increased energy, better balance, improved muscle strength, greater aerobic capacity, reduced joint pain, increased flexibility, decreased stress, anxiety & depression, lowered inflammation and improved overall well-being,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
Nikki Nauss is a U.S. Navy Veteran who has studied meditation and martial arts in monasteries and studios in Japan, Hawai’i, and California. As a Level I Sommelier, she also teaches Food & Beverage education classes and judges wine tasting competitions.
